If you’ve forgotten your iPhone passcode and are locked out, you can reset it using one of the three methods listed below without losing any data.
Using iCloud, reset the iPhone’s password
- . First, go to “iCloud.com” and “Sign in” on your PC using your Apple ID.
- Select your device after tapping “Find iPhone”
- .Tap “Erase” iPhone next, and input your Apple ID password immediately after.
- Finally, after wiping the iPhone, configure the Device and test its functionality.

Reset iPhone Passcode with iTunes
- Open “iTunes” first, then use a lightning cord to connect your iPhone to the computer.
- Select “iPhone” from the iTunes box and then click “Restore Backup.”
- There is a list of backups in the following window. Press the “Restore” button after choosing the most recent. Enter the password from your encrypted backup if you are prompted for one.
- You will then be prompted to deactivate “Find My iPhone”. You need to put your iPhone in recovery mode right now.
- Keep pressing the buttons until you reach the “Recovery Mode” screen.
- You will get a restore message on iTunes; simply click “Restore and Update” and wait for the process to be finished before using the product.
Password-reset your iPhone in recovery mode
- Open the Finder on your Mac after connecting your iPhone to the computer. Open iTunes on your Windows PC if you haven’t already.
- Next, enter Recovery Mode by following the instructions below, adapting them to your iPhone model.
iPhone 8 and later: Press and hold the Side button (Power Button) until you see the Recovery Mode screen. Then, press and hold the Volume Up and Down buttons once more.
iPhone 7/7 Plus: Hold down the Volume Down and Side buttons at the same time. Hold them in place until the Recovery Mode screen appears.
iPhone 6 or earlier: Hold down the Side (Power) and Home keys simultaneously. Hold them in place until the Recovery Mode Screen (iTunes logo and cable) appears.
- When your smartphone enters recovery mode, a pop-up window allowing you to update or restore your iPhone will appear.
- When the restore procedure is finished, your iPhone will boot to the “Hello” screen. The ‘Apps & Data’ Screen will appear when you have followed the directions on the screen.
