A popular cause for changing passwords in the workplace is owing to the company’s security policy, which compels employees to change login passwords on a monthly basis.
The kind of account will determine the password reset procedure for Windows 10. A different process is needed for a Microsoft account than it is for a local account.

Change your Microsoft Account password
You must be logged into the computer with a Microsoft Account in order to change the password for your Microsoft Account.
- Select Sign-in Options in the left pane of the Settings > Accounts page. Scroll down in the right pane, choose the Password option, and then press the Change button.
- Click on Your Email Address to obtain a Security Code from Microsoft on the Verify Your Identity screen.
- Enter the Security Code and press the “Verify” button on the following screen.
- Enter your Current Password first, followed by your New Password, on the following screen.
- Once your Microsoft Account password has been changed, you will see a confirmation that it has.
Change Local Account Password Using Settings
- Select Sign-in Options in the left pane of the Settings > Accounts page. Scroll down in the right pane, choose the Password option, and then press the Change button.
- Enter your current password on the screen that asks you to change it, then click the Next button.
- On the following screen, click the Next button after entering your New Password and Reenter Password.
- Lastly, press the Finish button.
Changing the login password to a PIN
- Select Sign-in Options in the left pane of the Settings > Accounts page. Scroll down in the right pane, choose the Windows Hello PIN option, and then press the Add button.
- Enter your current user password and hit “Ok” on the following screen.
- Enter any 4-digit PIN on the following screen, then click OK.
- Instead of using your standard User Password, you can now log into your computer using this 4-digit PIN.
