How to Change Dock Position On Mac

The Dock’s default location at the bottom of the screen is preferred by the majority of users.

While the majority of users are OK with the Dock’s location at the bottom of the screen, some users prefer to shift the Dock to the left or right side of the screen.

You should be aware that app icon sizes are larger when the Dock is in its default location at the bottom of the screen before moving it to the side of the screen.

When you move the Dock position to the Left or Right side of the screen, depending on the size of the screen, you can notice a noticeable drop in the size of the App icon.

On the other side, if the Dock appears too small and you have a lot of programs you want to make visible, you can simply raise the size by moving a slider.

Instead of adjusting the Dock’s size or position, you could prefer to temporarily remove it to free up some important screen space. In this case, you might wish to merely hide the Dock.

Changing the Dock Position Using System Preferences

  • Click the Apple icon to open the menu.
  • On the System Preferences screen, click on the Dock Icon.
  • You’ll see the Mac’s Dock set to its default position of Bottom on the following screen.
  • To alter the Dock Position, simply select the Left or Right option, depending on the Dock Position you prefer.

Drag the mouse to Change the Dock

  • Hold down the Shift key on your Mac’s keyboard.
  • After that, drag the dock to the left or right side of the screen by clicking and holding down on the Dock Line.

This method of moving the Dock is helpful if you require it to be on the right or left side of the screen for only certain apps.
